Art Lab

YAP ART LAB is a hands-on art-making class for home-school, public, and private school students.

In this fun and innovative class students will explore a variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, collage, pottery, and 3-d design. Each project is developed to strengthen arts-based, inquiry-based, decision-making, autonomy, motor skills, and build the foundation skills. Lessons may also include yoga and fun games!

This class is a great introduction to art for new students, as well as an opportunity for students to continue building skills from previous sessions.

Drawing

In this intro to drawing class students will learn to express their creativity using simple line drawings. Techniques such as foreshortening, overlapping, size, and surface will be taught to help stimulate and develop their independent skills. Students will be able to work independently and as part of a group in this class.

This class is designed for students who have a strong interest in learning the fundamentals of drawing. The instructor may give the students exercises to practice at home in between classes.

2D – 3D Art

Students will explore relief sculpture and 3D imagery on a 2D plane and turn a 2D image into a 3D form

Clay Handbuilding

Delve into the ancient art of clay hand building in this engaging youth art class. The six week course will cover fundamentals of pinch, slab, and coil construction techniques as well as glazing to add stunning finishes to your creations. This will be an exciting studio class for all interested in clay.

Mixed Media Art Journaling

Join our exciting mixed media art journaling class designed for ages 14 to 17. Explore the world of printmaking, drawing, painting, collaging, and more as you unleash your creativity and learn to express yourself through a diverse range of artistic techniques. Create unique and captivating journal pages that reflect your personal vision and artistic style.

Art Journaling is a long-recognised practice within creative therapy approaches. It is used to reduce stress and encourage creativity, allowing the artist to express themselves without the pressure of a perfect result.

Yoga & Art

This class offers children the opportunity to express themselves through art and creative movement. Offered as a 6 week session Thursday’s 12-2pm.

Galactic Child Yoga Instructor Nicolette leads the class through playful breathing exercises to promote focus, awareness, and a sense of calm. During the yoga component of the class, children explore fun poses, stretches, games, and mindful activities.

Following yoga, the children create a work of art based on the theme explored in yoga such as the earth, animals, or the ocean. Children learn about elements of art such as line, composition, form, and color in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Projects involve various media such as painting, collage, pottery, and drawing.

Please send your child in comfortable clothes that allow free movement, a water bottle, and a snack.

Creating with Clay for Kids

Creating with clay for kids is offered as a monthly package, including two classes per month.

In this fun beginner hand building class, children will learn how to make their own masterpieces with coil, slab, and pinching techniques. Projects include 3-D creations such as bowls, vessels, boxes with lids, and sculptural pieces. Working with clay helps children develop problem-solving and fine motor skills, and encourages imagination, initiative, and curiosity.

Students will be using regular clay and glaze, and will also experiment with air dry and polymer clay. In this 2 class session, the first week students will make objects using regular clay, and they will be able to decorate and glaze the pieces in the second week.

This introduction into the process of ceramics requires firing pieces in the kiln, so the artworks will have to be picked up a week or two after the class. You will be contacted by the instructor when the pieces are ready to be picked up!
