This 4 week course is an introduction to working with borosilicate glass (referred to as boro or hard glass) as a sculptural material on the torch. The course will cover how to safely set up and use a flame-working torch to melt and manipulate borosilicate glass. There will be a range of projects to help students learn the rules of the material and how to approach creating their vision on the torch.

Students will utilize clear and colored borosilicate glass, while learning how to create both basic and detailed shapes and objects. Projects will include objects such as a “bubble” wand, a flower, and small figurines. The class will focus on solid sculpting techniques, while introducing a few ways to approach using colored glass as well.

Students are invited to participate in an open studio session, on Dec. 18th, after the last session of class in order to practice their skills and finish their projects. Open Studio will have a monitor available to answer questions or provide assistance.

Included Supplies:

Course fee ($225) includes a $25 fee to cover the cost of clear and colored glass, as well as fuel usage for the duration of the course.

Students will also be able to borrow didymium glasses, required eyewear to view/work on the torch, as well as have access to studio hand tools for the duration of the course.
