Explorations In Creative Painting is a series of focused classes that teach a process driven, intuitive approach to painting, designed to help participants unleash their imagination, develop personal symbolism, and to shed fear and resistance to creating at a deep and meaningful level. Mixed media, materials, collage, personal iconography, layering, vision journaling, and other creative processes and techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. Group and individual critiques will be given, with the end goal of helping each student to find or further explore their own personal artistic path.
The class is offered on Saturdays, 1-4 p.m. See the Campus Map at the bottom of the page for classroom location.

Explorations in Creative Painting: Reflection on Life’s Journey: September 18 – October 23
In this session students will create paintings that explore some aspect of life’s journey. This journey could be literal in nature, as in the places you have been, or it could be metaphorical in nature, as in the arc of one’s life. Paintings could be anything from representational images based on travel photos to abstract imagery evocative of a personal inner journey.
The concept of “journey” is the starting point. Where you go is up to you.
Exploration in Creative Painting: Focus on the Figure: November 6 – December 11
In this session students will explore the human figure, it’s emotive complexity and it’s inexhaustible source of creative possibilities. Figurative imagery as a design motif stretches back in an uninterrupted continuum all the way back to Neolithic cave paintings. The figure can be expressed in limitless styles and variations from academic realism to near total abstraction. Figure construction and anatomy will be examined and explained.
We will use creative and unexpected concepts, materials and techniques to express and celebrate the figure in art.
The figure is the starting point. Where you go is up to you.
