CAMP DETAILS:

Creatisphere is the ultimate summer art experience for students ages 7-14 who want to create! The dynamic program includes hands-on workshops in pottery, sculpture, photography, glassblowing, bookmaking, 3-D design, mixed media, painting, printmaking, drawing and many more.

Each week students will do a project in the glass studio such as stained glass, blown glass, glass sculpting, glass fusing, glass sand-casting, glass heat transfers on wood, glass beads and marble making. All glass projects are conducted in small groups with FCAC glass instructors and assistants.

Each day there will be a light session of movement to help release energy to boost concentration and focus.  

The camp will also feature choice based learning centers to encourage participants to direct their own creativity independently after finishing assigned projects.

*We will offer a prorated camp option this week. Tuesday-Friday $160 Members / $192 Non-members

-So Surreal!

Campers will learn about composition and create their own wild and wacky surrealist collage! Then the campers will work in teams using face paint and photography to bring surrealism to life!

*Mediums and Techniques: collage, assemblage, drawing, painting, photography, stage and scene creation, and face-painting.

-Sculpture and Pottery Studio

Participants will make 3-D sculptural pieces using clay.

-Drawing & Paint Lab

This class will include a variety of fun drawing and painting projects based on drawing from observation and imaginations, and painting landscapes, superheroes, animals, and self-portraits.

June 5- 9 ENROLL

-Sculpture and Pottery Studio

Participants will make 3-D sculptural pieces using clay in the pottery studio.

-Stitch, Glue, Staple

Students will view a variety of different creative critters and design a critter doll of their own. The critters can be inspired from animals, humans, or anything you can think of!

 *Mediums and Techniques: pattern creation, drawing, stitch drawing, weaving, story-telling, and writing.

-A Modern Twist

In this class students will draw inspiration from modern art and to create their own interpretations through a variety of mediums.

 *Mediums and Techniques: drawing, painting, sculpture, costume design, 3-D design, sculpture, printmaking, jewelry making and mixed media.

June 12- 16 

Inventors Workshop- SIGN-UP

Do you have what it takes to innovate? Can you evaluate a product and then turn it into something new and improved?

Try your hand at the creative world of engineering innovations. This camp provides engineering challenges, but also leaves room for campers to attain the skills needed for product innovation. 

All innovations start at the drawing board through the creative process of design! At First City Art Center learn about fun and wacky inventions made by artists and draw inspiration to design your very own idea boards and inventions. Techniques and mediums explored will be drawing, painting, 3-D design, photography, mixed media, and even projects in the glass and ceramic studios! 

*Grades 4-6 begin at the MESS Hall and end their day at First City Arts Center. Grades 1-3 begin a the First City Arts Center and end their day at the MESS Hall.

Materials Matter - SIGN-UP

Like to experiment? Want to make stuff stronger, lighter, faster, better? Explore the world of material science with smelting, building walls, and so much more! Grades 1-3 will explore other materials and their suitability for building and constructing. Come and join us for this amazing camp sponsored by American Society of Materials and led by their master instructors! Don’t miss this unique opportunity! 

Create, Experiment and Innovate! At First City Art Center campers will learn about materials such as paint, clay and glass, where they come from, and how to use them to create their very own works of art! This camp will include fun artist talks, art demonstrations, and hand-on projects!

*Grades 1-3 begin at the MESS Hall and end their day at First City Arts Center. Grades 4-6 begin a First City Arts Center and end their day at the MESS Hall.

-Pop Art!

In this fun class students will learn about Pop Art and think about how popular culture influences art today. They will create their own works of art inspired by Pop Art Artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Claus Oldenburg and Coosje Van Brugger.

*Mediums and Techniques: drawing and illustration, painting, 3-D sculpture, printmaking, paper mache and mixed media.

-Sculpture & Pottery Studio

Participants will make 3-D sculptural pieces using clay.

-Mini Sculptures and their Stories

In this class campers, will create miniature sculpted characters and objects such as trolls, fairies, and elves and then consider how these minis might interact with the 'real world'. Campers will then take their mini sculptures around the campus and photograph them interacting with the world to tell a story.

July 10- 14 ENROLL

-Altered Books: Pattern and Paper

Campers will explore patterns found in nature and create an altered book using spiral, concentric, parallel, branching, symmetry and asymmetry.

 *Mediums and Techniques: drawing, painting, tar paper printing, photo transfers, collage weaving, paper-making, stenciling, and writing.

-Mythology and Fantasy

This class is great for kids with big imaginations! Students will learn about Greek Mythology, fables, monsters, and myth.

*Mediums and Techniques: drawing, sewing, painting, sculpture, mask making, costume design, printmaking and mixed media.

-Sculpture & Pottery Studio

Participants will make 3-D sculptural pieces using clay.

July 17- 21 ENROLL

-Collage and Design

This class is all about learning design! Campers will use a variety of papers (print media, painted paper and handmade paper), glue, paint, oil pastels, and spray paint to create surface designs on fabric, wood, or paper.

*Mediums and Techniques: 3-D assemblage, collage, book-making, and journaling to help with idea creation and development. 

-Sculpture & Pottery Studio

Participants will make 3-D sculptural pieces using clay.

-Think Like Chihuly; Glass Studio

-Think Big; Mural and Poster Art

This week will include learning about the power of public art and the messages it can convey. The learning artists will create their own large scale works of art independently and as a group.

*Mediums and Techniques: wheat-pasting, painting, stenciling, spray painting, and drawing.

July 24- 28 ENROLL

-Paint, Weave, Mixed Media Mania!

Students will paint, cut, collage, layer, weave, glue and sew different types of paper into compositions while exploring the elements of design. Basic papermaking will also be explored. Students will make a journal to record and explore their ideas. 

-Art Around the World

Get ready to discover art from around the world! In this class students will learn about traditional folk art techniques from Africa, South America, North America, Australia and more!

Mediums and Techniques: drawing, painting, textiles, printmaking, stenciling, collage, 3-D design.

-Sculpture and Pottery Studio

Participants will make 3-D sculptural pieces using clay.

July 31- August 4 ENROLL

-Art-A-Con!

Campers will choose from several classic works of art to use as inspiration and then recreate or create new characters that might be found in the art work. The students will work together to design and create costumes to become part the art work! To fully bring the art to life, students will create a script to describe the work of art.

*Mediums and Techniques: drawing, design, sewing, mask-making, story-telling, and costume design.

-Fun and Funky Art

This class will include fun 2-D and 3-D projects.

Mediums: Projects will include anything from papermaking to mask-making.  

-Sculpture and Pottery Studio

Participants will make 3-D sculptural pieces using clay.
